The images date from circa 1890-1899 and depict Portland, Celilo Falls, the Columbia River, and Columbia River Gorge in Oregon; Tacoma, Mount Rainier, and other locations in Washington state; Fort Wrangell, Juneau, Sitka, and Native Americans and gold miners in various locations in Alaska; photographs taken along the Canadian Pacific Railway from Victoria, British Columbia to Alberta; portraits of Native American chiefs, including Chief Joseph and Sitting Bull; Yellowstone National Park; Salt Lake City, Utah; and various locations in Colorado. Photographers include William Notman & Son of Montreal, Canada; Frank La Roche of Seattle, Wash.; and Stephen Joseph Thompson of New Westminster, Vancouver, British Columbia, among others.
